It's a great night to be a Jayhawk!!

Just in case you missed it, #15 ranked KU beat the #3 ranked Oklahoma Sooners in a great basketball game tonight, and they beat them in Norman no less. Sherron Collins with 26 points and Cole Aldrich with a double-double, it just doesn't get any better than this! ROCK, CHALK, JAYHAWK, KKKKKUUUUUU!!

We're off first thing in the morning for our cruise, I'll have pictures and tales to tell when we return.

My favorite sound

There is nothing better than the sound of a child's laughter, especially if that child happens to be your Grandson!! Peyton loves to bounce on his dad's knee and be tickled, and tonight was no exception.

After getting him all wound up and laughing, we tried to get a picture of him with his Mom and Dad, this is the best shot, even though he turned out a little fuzzy (Igot him just before he hopped down and took off running).

And he's off and running.......

My Two Girls

Our little dog "Gidget" loves to keep me company. While I am sewing, she lays by my feet, she especially likes to surprise me and run the foot pedal for me when I least expect it! She loves to do Bible Study with me. As I sit in my chair with my Bible and reference books all around, she sits faithfully next to me, watching each page turn. If I set a book down, she lays a paw on it to keep the page marked for me. I'm pretty sure she loves the Word of God, either that or she knows she'll be pet every time I mover her off of a book! Gidget had a rough early life, ended up in a shelter, adopted by my daughter and son-in-law and then passed on to me. She would love to sleep with me at night, but is smart enough to know to jump down the minute she spots Bruce!

Gidget and Maggie are best friends, even though they are quite different. Maggie lives to eat and play. That's it. If she has her two meals a day, and a little romp or wrestle she knows her day is complete.

Between the two of them, I'm never alone, and always well protected (at least they like to think they are tough)!!

Quilts

I recently finished the binding on a new quilt and, of course, like any true quilter, I have to show it off. Since I was taking pictures, I thought I'd share a one of the first quilts I did as well, in honor of Valentines Day!! The first picture is a close-up of the corner of the "Hearts all Around" quilt. It is a scrappy quilt using lots of 2 inch squares. It was the project in the first quilt class I took with my good friend Barb. By the way Barb, did you ever finish your quilt?????

Close up of the corner.

And, TADA

Hearts all Around....

This is where you ooooh and aaaah!

This is the one I just finished, it's called "Heavenly Stars", I think because you needed the patience of a saint to piece all the one inch strips that go in to it! However, the finished quilt is worth it!

Couldn't you get a "heavenly" nights sleep under this?

Hope you enjoyed.

Introducing Bruce Junior

As I promised in my previous post, here is a picture of the new "baby". I look pretty good for a 53 year old new mother, if I do say so myself!

The Best Nurses Ever!

I had a little surgery last Friday, and had to stay overnight in the hospital. Even though my surgery was not related to Labor and Delivery, I was taken care of on my own unit, by the nurses I work with. I have to give kudos to just how wonderful my care was. I was brought over after recovery, and there was Nurse "Nacho", who knows more about caring for a surgical patient than I ever will. She made me comfortable, made me feel pampered, and most important of all, Made me Laugh. She and the "other infamous Lisa" decided that while I was in my drug induced state, it would be the perfect time to play a little trick. I had just received a dose of Morphine and had drifted off to "lala land", when someone came in my room, calls out "Mrs. H?", "I have your baby here, are you ready to nurse"!!?? Well let me tell you, as someone who's youngest child is 25, those were words I hadn't heard in a loooooong time. As she came in pushing a crib with a "baby" in it, I was pretty sure, something must have gone veeerrry wrong with my surgery!! As I struggled to kindly tell this lovely volunteer that I thought she had the wrong room, I heard the snickers coming from behind a curtain, and behold, there they were, the culprits, led by the "Lisa's"!! I haven't laughed that hard in years. Needless to say the "baby" was a very realistic doll, who before the day was over had his own name card, and "It's A Boy" balloon. The entire day and night staff had fun with "Bruce Junior" as they affectionately named him. I discovered that laughter truly is the best medicine. My kind and gentle night nurse Helen, took care of "Junior" and I that night, and lovely Maria, took "Junior" to the nursery, for the nursery nurse to care for, so I could get some rest. The next morning, Remarkably Pregnant Ramsey, not only brought back "Junior" so my husband could take a peek, she brought me my favorite coffee (flavored with Hazelnut!!). I have always been proud I work at Baywood, but as a patient, I can tell you you will never find such excellent, compassionate and FUN care anywhere else in the valley. Thank you BAYWOOD BABES!!

PS - Pictures were taken, I'll post them as soon as they are available.

Happy Birthday Sara!!!

Today is Sara's 28th birthday. It's hard to believe she's married and the mother of a 1-1/2 year old of her own. I love you, Pal. We're so proud of you. Happy Birthday!!

Trip to Taos

This is me, in the Plaza of Old Taos
Bruce, on the bridge over the Rio Grande River

The ski lift at Taos Ski Valley,
We learned that Taos is a four letter word for STEEP!

Bruce and I just got home from 5 days in Taos, New Mexico. We'd never been there and it's only about a 9 hour drive from our home in AZ. Taos Ski Valley is beautiful, with lots of snow, and great skiing. Great skiing that is if your not ME! I discovered that when you are of a certain age, and haven't skiied in over 8 years, it's a whole new experience. Bruce just picked right up like he'd been skiing every year. Unfortunately for him, I made it look really easy to ski really badly! I had several good runs on our first morning, then several awful runs (we're talking, falling, getting up, falling, skiing, falling, walking, skiing falling all in one partial run). Because I felt so beat up the next morning, we spent the day exploring Taos, and it's a fun town with lots of history. The following morning, determined not to be a quitter, I joined a ski school class. Alas, it didn't go very well. On my first run, where the instructors watch you ski to determine which group you belong to, I landed smack on my bum in front of all the other students and instructors and had to be helped up. Needless to say it didn't get much better over the next hour or so. Finally, being the gracious loser I am, I told my cute 22 year old, skinny, excelllent skiier instructor, that I felt I had a poor attitude and needed to drop out of the class!! After that the pressure was off, I turned in my skis, met Bruce for lunch, and we spent the following day exploring the whole area. It was loads of fun. I might try skiing again next year, but need to work on my attitude first!! Here are a couple of pictures from the trip.
